Mission to Townsville

The first physical mission of EURAXESS Australia & New Zealand for 2024 will be to Townsville. It is the first ever physical mission of the hub to the city. The mission will include involvement in two major activities:

  • Understanding Horizon Europe at James Cook University: EURAXESS Australia and New Zealand will deliver an information session on European Research Funding Opportunities to PhD students, Early & Mid-Career Researchers and Senior researchers, from all research disciplines at James Cook University on 27 March. The information session  will focus primarily on EU Framework Programme - Horizon Europe and delve deeper into Pillar I (Excellent Science) and Pillar II (Global Challenges). Details on Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), European Research Council (ERC) Grants, ERC's Implementing Arrangements with NHMRC & ARC as well as NHMRC-EU Collaborative Research Grant Scheme will be discussed. A high-level overview of Pillar II will also be presented to showcase how and what involvement in collaborative research grants would entail.

  • Engagement with key JCU research stakeholders: The mission will also include a closed door boardroom style engagement with key JCU research stakeholders (e.g Research Office, Associate Deans of Research) on strategic and operational aspects of getting involved in Horizon Europe as an institution.
