About

Outline

A 3-day workshop will be held with the aim of forging connections between Brazilian and UK institutions, and exploring the potential for future collaborations is in the fields of natural products, food waste valorisation, bio-based solvents, monomers & other bulk chemical feedstocks. Individual early career researchers will present their current (or proposed) research in this field through a series of 15 min presentations. There will be a brainstorming session, broken down into smaller thematic groups (e.g. solvents, polymers, food waste) identifying synergies and opportunities for future research proposals and collaborations.

What is funded

A trip to the Federal University of Pará, Belém, Brazil for a workshop

Duration

The workshop runs from 23rd-25th July, 2024

Eligibility

Early Career Researchers (PhD students and postdoctoral research assistants) in biobased chemistry and the bioeconomy, in the UK or Brazil

Interested applicants should submit a 1-page A4 abstract discussing their current or proposed work in the field.  We specifically encourage involvement from female researchers and those from minority groups. Applications will be judged blind, however, given the topic, preference will be given where possible, to applicants from the Legal Amazon, those with a strong track record working in valorisation of local biomass.
